Pennsylvania Lawmakers Say No To Limiting Legislators

No stopping the ruling class.

A constitutional amendment that would limit the number of legislators in Pennsylvania from 203 to 151 was voted down in the house by 114-76 with Democrats carrying the majority vote.

The proposed bill would have saved Pennsylvania taxpayers anywhere from $10 million to $15 million dollars a year.

Pennsylvania’s may have a chance to vote on this as a ballot initiative in 2019.

Lowering the number of legislators could also have an impact on the amount of bills introduced in any one given year, including Second Amendment legislation.

You see, getting the power out of the hands of tyrants isn’t as easy as it seems.

Majority Leader Dave Reed, R-Indiana, argued that lawmakers should have a clean vote on a House-only bill.
“The people of this state deserve a straight-up vote on the language that was passed last time, so folks can be on the record on where they actually stand on the issue,” Reed said.

In the procedural motion, Democrats voted unanimously in favor of the position that effectively killed the bill’s chances, while Republicans were split.

Pennsylvania has the second-most lawmakers of any state, behind only New Hampshire, and the most of any full-time legislature.”
